Description of Duties:

The key to Folklorama's success is Team Folklorama - our year-round volunteer program that provides a variety of fun and engaging opportunities for our robust network of volunteers. One of the best ways to get involved with Folklorama is to volunteer at a Pavilion during our annual flagship Festival!


Pavilion Volunteers help in a wide variety of areas, including, but not limited to:


- Admissions - Help be the first to greet our guests and assist with selling and scanning tickets!


- Guest Services - Provide excellent customer service and ensure the Pavilion is kept clean and organized!


- Beverage Services - Serve up refreshing ethno-cultural drinks! Smart Choices certification is an asset.


- Food Preparation, Food Line Services, and Table Servers - Always a favourite among guests, help serve up tantalizing dishes from around the world!


- Backstage Support - Assist performers and stage crew put on an amazing show!


- Cultural Display Interpreters - Share your knowledge and passion for intangible ethno-cultural traditions!


- Souvenirs Attendants - Make sure every guest goes home with a special Folklorama keepsake!


- Pavilion Set Up/Take Down - Lend a hand transforming our venues into vibrant Pavilions!


Please note: Folklorama assists Pavilions by overseeing the intake of volunteer applications, but each Pavilion is responsible for their own selection, orientation/training, and scheduling of Volunteers. Once your application has been received, it will be forwarded to the Pavilion(s) of your choice. Pavilion Coordinators will follow up with applicants directly should a volunteer position be available.


A full listing of participating 2025 Pavilions will be made available to the public in Spring 2025.

   
Skills Required:

The following skills are considered assets to Pavilion volunteering:


- Ability to withstand long periods of time on your feet


- Comfortable working with members of the public and public speaking


- Excellent communications skills


- Time management skills


- Ability to work under pressure, either independently or as part of a team


- First Aid certification


- Food Handlers' certification


- Smart Choices certification


- Previous experience volunteering with events or Festivals


- Be punctual, enthusiastic, attentive, patient, and helpful!
