Organizational Description: The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority's (WRHA) Community Health and Corporate Services Volunteer Program provides meaningful public engagement, develops effective partnerships, mobilizes appropriate volunteer and community resources, supports a positive working environment and enhances the WRHA's capacity to support and deliver quality services.

Volunteers are placed in the community, supporting a variety of programs within Public Health, Primary Care and Corporate.

Description of Duties:

Seeking Human Nutritional Sciences students or graduates! Accepting applications until April 11, 2025.


Two volunteers will tend a display table booth for Public Health Nutrition and provide the following:



  • Organizing supplies/ display materials

  • Talking to parents/guardians and preschoolers

  • Helping children and their caregivers with an interactive food/ nutrition activity

  • Working with public health dietitian/public health nurse

   
Skills Required:

  • Human Nutritional Sciences student or graduate

  • Good oral communication skills

  • Organizational skills

  • Conscientious

  • Comfortable working with children/parents. Sensitive to diverse cultures and socio economic backgrounds. Must respect the WRHA policies on confidentiality and dress code

  • Clear Child Abuse Registry Check, and Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector

As a volunteer, you'll gain valuable insights into nutrition and health while making a meaningful impact in the community. By sharing your skills and knowledge with others, you'll build lasting connections with Public Health Dietitians and develop essential communication skills through hands-on practice and collaboration.

This is an episodic volunteer opportunity with 5 shifts taking place from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, April 30, May 8, May 14, May 21 and May 28, 2025. Interested applicants must be available for a minimum of 3 of the 5 shift dates and complete required training prior to shift dates.


Shifts take place in schools located in River East and Transcona communities.
