Organizational Description: The Manitoba Agricultural Museum is a not-for-profit, charitable organization located near Austin on a 320-acre site with a mission to collect, preserve, interpret and demonstrate Manitoba's agricultural heritage. It was incorporated in the Province of Manitoba since 1953. It is governed by a Board of twelve directors elected by its membership each year.

Open to the public year-round, the museum contains Canada's largest collection of operating vintage agricultural equipment, a 26-building heritage village, and 3 major curated exhibits. The museum's collection is maintained by 600 volunteers and 3 full time staff.

Every summer the museum hosts the Manitoba Threshermen's Reunion and Stampede, Canada's largest farm heritage festival.

The museum is proud to be a designated Manitoba Star Attraction and one of seven provincial Signature Museums.

Description of Duties:

Preside as Chair of the Finance Committee and Audit Committee, and primary contact with the corporation's auditor.


Work with the Finance Committee and Bookkeeper to ensure that accurate financial records are maintained and appropriate financial reports are made available to the Board of Directors on a timely basis.


Assist the Finance Committee together with the Executive Director in preparing the annual budget and presenting the budget to the Board of Directors for approval.


Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards


Ensure that the Museum's assets are protected, expended, and invested according to Board policies and procedures


Monitor adherence to financial policies and, when applicable, recommend financial policies to the Board for approval.


Ensure and report that all legally-defined remittances are made.

   
Skills Required:

Post-secondary education with a major in accounting, CPA/CMA designation an asset (but not required).


Strong background in finance, accounting, or related fields. Familiar with financial principles, budgeting, financial reporting and analysis.


Familiarity with CRA regulations for charities or a willingness to learn.


Strong sense of integrity, ethics, and a commitment to transparency and accountability.


Prior experience working with nonprofits or a good understanding of the nonprofit sector is very valuable.

Approximately 5 to 10 hours per month.


Monthly meetings: Finance meetings are conducted by Zoom every third Wednesday of the month. Meetings are typically 2 hours in length.


Board meetings are also conducted by Zoom every forth Wednesday of the month. Financial presentation at board meetings is typically 30 minutes in length.


Occasional time may required outside of meetings to prepare & distribute financial reports to the finance committee and board or directors.
