Description of Duties:

The success of Folklorama is due to the commitment and hard work of our vast network of volunteers. Amongst these volunteers, Tour Guides play a valuable and essential role.


As a Folklorama Volunteer Tour Guide, you will host bus tours from around Winnipeg, rural Manitoba, and across North America as they travel to their evening Pavilions. Showcase your province to out-of-town visitors and enjoy the Festival experience VIP style!


If you're an outgoing person who enjoys interacting with groups, and have some experience with Folklorama - whether you love attending the Festival or already have experience as a Pavilion volunteer - consider joining our team of Tour Guides!


Duties and Responsibilities


A few key Tour Guide responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


- Deliver outstanding customer service and ensure the group has a memorable time on their tour through your leadership.


- Ensure the group receives the correct meal and beverage service at each Pavilion.


- Provide fun and educational commentary about Folklorama and the city of Winnipeg.


- Ensure any problems that may arise are dealt with promptly and communicated to the Manager, Group Tour Programs.


- Clock-in at beginning of each shift and clock-out at end of shift using the Better Impact app.


- Contribute to Folklorama's mission of bringing people together through sharing ethno-cultural experiences and education.


Orientation and Training


The training sessions will give you the opportunity to meet other Tour Guides, learn how to host groups, and understand Folklorama's policies and procedures. Training sessions will be held in the month of June. As a new Tour Guide, your attendance at all sessions will be mandatory.


Supervision


Tour Guides will report to the Manager, Group Tour Programs, and the Assistant, Group Tour Programs.

   
Skills Required:

- Comfortable speaking in front of groups.


- Excellent communication skills.


- Work as a team with bus drivers and Pavilions.


- Participate in collaborative problem solving.


- Experience using Better Impact and Dropbox is an asset.


- Access to a mobile phone and data plan is preferred.


- Be punctual, enthusiastic, attentive, patient, and helpful.

To qualify as a Tour Guide, you must be able to devote a minimum of three (3) nights during the Festival (August 3rd to 16th, 2025) and attend 2-3 training sessions leading up to the Festival. Shift times vary from 4-6 hours on average.
