Description of Duties:

The Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities (MLPD) has proudly been a cornerstone of Manitoba's social justice community since 1974. MLPD is a provincial not-for-profit organization committed to fostering an accessible and inclusive society where everyone can benefit from equitable opportunities to fully participate with respect and dignity. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to advocate, educate, and provide expert advice and guidance on a wide range of topics and issues related to accessibility.


The Role:


MLPD is looking for an experienced fundraising leader to join its Provincial Council of Representatives as the Fundraising Committee Chair. Representatives are dedicated volunteers with lived experience with disabilities or gifts who oversee the good governance and fiscal sustainability of MLPD. They bring their life experiences, networks, and skills to the forefront of Manitoba's accessibility movement, advancing MLPD's mission and driving meaningful social change.



  • Leads the Fundraising Committee in creating and executing sustainable fundraising strategies that support MLPD's mission and financial objectives.

  • Initiates, cultivates and nurtures relationships with donors and funders, enhancing their engagement and investment in MLPD.

  • Organizes fundraising events and campaigns, working with committee members to implement fundraising initiatives and oversee volunteers.

  • Acts as the Council's subject matter expert on fundraising matters.

  • Participates actively in monthly council meetings, sharing ideas collaboratively and fostering a culture of respect and inclusion.

  • Leads or participates actively in council working groups and on special projects.

  • Adheres to MLPD's bylaws and policies, acting to ensure MLPD's financial well-being.

   
Skills Required:

​​​​​​The ideal candidate will have a non-profit leadership background, with experience overseeing fundraising projects, managing donor and sponsorship relationships, and writing grants. They should demonstrate a collaborative leadership style, excel in relationship-building, and possess outstanding communication skills. Working toward or being a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) would be considered an asset.

Additional Details:



  • Council Representatives are volunteers.

  • Representatives are nominated to serve on the council for three (3) year terms at our annual general meeting (AGM), typically held in June/July.

  • Nominees must be MLPD members in good standing, over the age of 18, and must not be in a state of bankruptcy.

  • The time commitment for this role is approximately 5-10 hours per month. Meetings are held virtually, with some hybrid meetings occurring a few times a year.

  • Because the Fundraising Committee Chair will handle sensitive information, nominees are required to provide a police information check that is valid within six (6) months of their nomination. A criminal record does not automatically disqualify candidates. The MLPD Council will evaluate the nature of the offence and the time elapsed in light of our values, bylaws, and fiduciary duty.
