Organizational Description: | Who We Are Youth Employment Services (Y.E.S. Manitoba Inc.) delivers employment services to youth. We receive our funding from the Province of Manitoba as well as many other donors and funders. Our focus is to assist youth with finding and maintaining employment by utilizing a multilevel approach. We assess clients' application skills, guide them to suitable employment opportunities, offer employability workshops, and provide resource training and educational programs. In addition, we partner with many community agencies to offer presentations and workshops. Youth Employment Services (Y.E.S. Manitoba Inc.) was founded in 1973 by the Winnipeg YMCA and the Rotary Club of Winnipeg, who had a vision of providing services for youth including motivational training, employment referral, and counselling. Youth Employment Services was incorporated on August 9th, 1974 and is a registered charity. |

Description of Duties: | Youth Employment Services Manitoba (YES Manitoba) is seeking individuals to join our volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of YES Manitoba, developing its strategic plans, and assisting in setting goals and objectives. ABOUT US YES Manitoba is a registered charity that provides free, inclusive employment services to youth ages 16 to 29. Our purpose is to help youth realize their potential to become self-sufficient and we strive to create a warm and welcoming environment for clients, community members, and staff. We provide a safe and supportive environment where youth can learn new skills, develop confidence, and feel supported during their transition to employment. YES Manitoba receives funding from the Province of Manitoba, as well as other donors and funders. We reach over 750 clients annually and partner with many community agencies to offer programming, presentations, and workshops. ABOUT THE ROLE We are currently recruiting individuals to serve on our volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of the organization, supporting our mission and vision by volunteering time, talent, and energy to help the organization better serve our clients. In addition to participating actively in formulating and overseeing the implementation of policies and strategies consistent with the purpose of the organization, the Board of Directors act as ambassadors and promote the organization within the community. |
Skills Required: | Members of the Board of Directors will have: • Knowledge of the organization's service demographics.•A desire and ability to work as a part of a collaborative team; strong professional communication skills. • Skills, experience, and knowledge to apply and support various board and organization initiatives. Please note, this volunteer position requires a satisfactory security check, which includes a Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) and a security check declaration. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of a volunteer term. Only original copies of the CRC with VSS will be considered acceptable for the purposes of this policy. YOUR COMMITMENT • Serve on a minimum of one board sub-committee as identified throughout the year(approximately 3 to 5 hours per month) • Attend special events such as board orientation, training, annual general meeting, planning sessions, fundraising events, and networking opportunities, as required. • Serve a two-year term with eligibility for re-election (maximum three terms in the same position, maximum 10 consecutive years on the board) |
