Organizational Description: The Living Prairie Museum is a 12 hectare (30acre) tall grass prairie preserve located inside the City of Winnipeg. Set aside in 1968, this preserve is home to over 160 species of prairie plants and a great array of prairie wildlife and is one of the few remaining fragments of this once vast ecosystem.

The goal of Living Prairie Museum is to provide awareness and conservation of natural areas, specifically tall grass prairie, through environmental education.

We host many special events, workshops, day camps and free family activties throughout the year.

Description of Duties:

Every winter the Living Prairie Museum hosts free snowshoe rentals, allowing people to visit the prairie in winter and try out snowshoeing. This popular event attracts a wide variety of people on a drop-in basis. The Friends of Living Prairie Museum provides hot chocolate and snacks.


Snowshoe Assistants help by:


- Handing out snowshoes
- Assist with fitting and securing snowshoes
- Teaching visitors how to use snowshoes
- Make and distribute snacks and drinks


Training is provided and Living Prairie Museum staff will be present at all times.

   
Skills Required:

Must be able to work with public in a polite and friendly way


Must be willing and able to follow safety requirements


Must be at least 18 years old or volunteer with a parent/guardian present at all times

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

Customer service, public outreach skills


Learn about snowshoeing and winter activities

   
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment:
Weekend

2.5 hour shifts (10am-12:30pm and 12:30pm-3pm)


Sundays in January and February 2025


Volunteers can sign up for one or more shift
