Organizational Description: | Purpose / Mission: "South Winnipeg Seniors Resource Council is a registered non-profit information and referral hub connecting older adults with community resources to assist them in daily living." Goal: Linking older adults with resources available in their community to enhance their well-being and quality of life. Objectives: a) Networking with service providers to share and exchange information and expertise. b) Raising awareness regarding issues and needs of the older adult in the community. c) Promoting, developing, implementing, and referring services in response to the needs of older adults. Who We Serve: Adults 55+ living in the designated community as stated below and families, friends and caregivers of older adults. Where We Serve: Our designated community is in the City of Winnipeg, in the Province of Manitoba bounded by the Assiniboine River on the North, the Red River on the East, Wilkes Avenue on the south, and the Perimeter Highway on the West in the communities of Charleswood, Crescentwood, Fort Rouge, Lord Roberts, Osborne Village, River Heights, Riverview and Tuxedo. How We Serve: The SWSRC serves the community in response to current and evolving community needs and services. We are committed to building community capacity and empowering older adults in south Winnipeg to maintain independence and increase quality of life through referral to a variety of services and programs. |

Description of Duties: | SWSRC is currently seeking applications from accounting-financial professionals to join our Board of Directors and fill our Treasurer position or act in an Advisory role to the Board Treasurer. The treasurer works with the Resource Coordinator and the executive members of the Board of Directors to ensure appropriate use of funds. The treasurer prepares and monitors monthly reports, banking, payroll, monitors the annual budget, attends executive and monthly board meetings (Sept.- June), participates in discussions and decision making and attends social events. Participates on other committees as required. |
Skills Required: | Previous experience with bookkeeping/accounting, financial reporting. Excellent communication and management skills, computer literacy. Experience with grant search and writing an asset. |
Skills Gained/Related Careers: | Gain awareness and knowledge of issues concerning older adults, resources available, opportunity to meet with professionals who provide programs and/or services. Opportunity to utilize skills in accounting. |
Age: | 31-54, 55+ |
Time Commitment: | Daytime Treasurer: Daytime monthly Board meetings (Sept.-June) and monthly executive meetings plus preparation/accounting time averages 20 hours/month. Attendance at related special events i.e. Strategic Planning sessions, Annual General Meeting. Board members serve a minimum of two years. Advisor: 10-15 hours/month including board and committee meetings. |
