Organizational Description: LITERACYWORKS a non-profit adult literacy program.
LiteracyWORKS envisions a Winnipeg in which all adults are literate and able to participate fully in their cultural, economic and social worlds.
Through classes and one-to-one tutoring, and based on the individual needs of each student, LiteracyWORKS provides people with essential literacy skills to enhance self-sufficiency and quality of life. These include reading, writing, numeracy and oral communications skills.
LiteracyWORKS aims to provide services in a way that is student-centred, professional, safe, supportive, inclusive and celebratory.

Description of Duties:






- Attend and participate in monthly Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting as a voting member.
- Committed to LiteracyWorks Inc., and its mission.
- Assist in policy development to govern the organization, including its strategic plan, goals and objectives.
- Approve budgets and financial operations of the organization.
- Actively seek candidates for the Board, when needed.
- Take an active role in special events and fundraising activities, contributing time and /or resources.
- Act as a goodwill ambassador on behalf of the organization at all times, from time to time represent LiteracyWorks at official functions.
- Draw on individuals in personal network who can assist with matters before the Board.

Board members are expected to attend 10 Board Meetings per year (September-June) as well as the Annual General Board Meeting. Members are expected to complete between 3-6 hours in Board-related work.
