Organizational Description: Volunteer Services is dedicated to improving patient care and the quality of life for patients, visitors and staff at the Health Sciences Centre. HSC Volunteers fill a variety of roles in adult patient care, the Children's Hospital, retail and food services, PsycHealth, Rehab Hospital etc.

Description of Duties:

Are you looking to volunteer with a friend or a group of 2-3 friends? This opportunity might be for you! At HSC we receive many charitable clothing donations. Having these donations is very essential as it helps provide many patients HSC with necessary clothing that they did not have or lost when they were admitted. We are looking for a couple or a group of volunteers who are interested in assisting with sorting, organizing, and folding these donations in our Clothing Depo here at HSC. You can volunteer to help improve the lives of patients at HSC and spend time with close family or friends at the same time!


Length of Commitment and Availability:
- We require a consistent commitment of one regular 2-3 hours shift per week
- A minimum of 6-month consistent commitment of volunteering
- Schedule changes will need to be approved by your administrator

Request for References:
- Your assigned Volunteer Administrator must have suitable knowledge of volunteer's skills and abilities as required for the reference
- All references are at the discretion of the Volunteer Administrator. Minimum 2 weeks' notice required
- Verification or a statement of volunteer hours can be provided by the Volunteer Services Department

   
Skills Required:

- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Comfortable kneeling, crouching, and or bending occasionally
- Ability to safely hold and or carry clothing items/bags up to 20-40lbs
- Ability to push carts with clothing & shoes
- All volunteers must be immune to chicken pox as patients are particularly vulnerable to infections. If you are unsure, please ask your healthcare provider
- Volunteer Services will complete a free Adult and Child Abuse Registry Check.
