Organizational Description: Purpose / Mission: "South Winnipeg Seniors Resource Council is a registered non-profit information and referral hub connecting older adults with community resources to assist them in daily living."

Goal: Linking older adults with resources available in their community to enhance their well-being and quality of life.

Objectives:
a) Networking with service providers to share and exchange information and expertise.
b) Raising awareness regarding issues and needs of the older adult in the community.
c) Promoting, developing, implementing, and referring services in response to the needs of older adults.

Who We Serve: Adults 55+ living in the designated community as stated below and families, friends and caregivers of older adults.

Where We Serve: Our designated community is in the City of Winnipeg, in the Province of Manitoba bounded by the Assiniboine River on the North, the Red River on the East, Wilkes Avenue on the south, and the Perimeter Highway on the West in the communities of Charleswood, Crescentwood, Fort Rouge, Lord Roberts, Osborne Village, River Heights, Riverview and Tuxedo.

How We Serve: The SWSRC serves the community in response to current and evolving community needs and services. We are committed to building community capacity and empowering older adults in south Winnipeg to maintain independence and increase quality of life through referral to a variety of services and programs.

Description of Duties:

SWSRC is seeking new board members to serve on the Board of Directors. Do you believe in connecting seniors 55+ to community services, supporting their well-being and promoting their quality of life? If yes, then consider volunteering your time, experience and skills to help guide our mission to support, inform and connect seniors 55+ in South Winnipeg.


Board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings (Sept.-June), serve on one working committee, participate in discussions and decision making and attend special events.


Meetings are held during the day at locations in South Winnipeg. The total time commitment average between 6 and 12 hours/month.

   
Skills Required:

Excellent communication skills, computer literacy, interest in the quality of life and needs of older adults and their families.


Expertise highly desirable: areas of finance, human resources, non-profit management, web based social media technology, community relations and/or fund development.

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

Gain awareness and knowledge of issues concerning older adults, resources available, opportunity to meet with professionals who provide programs and/or services to older adults.

   
Age: 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment:
Daytime

Daytime monthly board meetings (Sept. - June) and committee meetings plus preparation time averages 6-12 hours/month. Attendance at related special events i.e. Strategic Planning sessions, Annual General Meeting.


Board members serve a minimum of two years.
