Description of Duties:

The Role


The Orientation Facilitator will have an integral role in the volunteer recruitment process. In teams of two, Facilitators are responsible for leading and presenting the Shelter Mover's Trauma-Informed Care Orientation session to volunteers completing the onboarding process.


Responsibilities and Accountabilities



  • Train and engage volunteer applicants by leading 1-2 Trauma-Informed Care Orientation sessions per month

  • Gather and share knowledge on critical concepts of Violence Against Women and the procedures, values and impact of Shelter Movers

  • Have regular check-ins with the Orientation Supervisor/ Volunteer Services Manager

  • Coordinate with other Facilitators and the Volunteer Services team

  • Review the Trauma-Informed Care Orientation for any content changes in advance of each presentation

   
Skills Required:

Skills and Qualifications



  • Strong ability to work as part of a team

  • Comfortable leading and facilitating virtual orientation sessions

  • Familiarity in navigating Zoom as a host/ presenter

  • Experience with public speaking

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Comfortable identifying and responding to different group dynamics

  • Patience, empathy, emotional intelligence, active listening skills, and ability to handle difficult conversations

  • Awareness of appropriate boundaries, compassion fatigue, and self-care

  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to apply an anti-oppressive lens to individuals

  • Tact, discretion, high maturity level and good judgment

  • Reliable work habits

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to protect client and volunteer confidentiality

  • A long-term interest in the Gender Based Violence Sector (GBV), and Volunteer Management/Non-Profit Management an asset
