Organizational Description: Actionmarguerite, located at 185 Despins Street in St. Boniface, is a bilingual long-term care facility providing a range of services to seniors and adults with physical disabilities and loss of autonomy.

In 1935, the Grey Nuns established Centre hospitalier Taché Nursing Centre, until recently referred to as Taché Centre. Our mandate is to serve Winnipeg's Francophone population and deliver regional specialized services in three specific areas: dementia care with related behaviours, complex and chronic care, and care for those who suffer from an acquired brain injury. We also provide respite care and an Adult Day Centre for seniors and adults living in the community who can benefit from social interaction in a group setting.

Description of Duties:

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable volunteer to assist a resident in enjoying bike rides on their adapted side-by-side electric bike. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to provide outdoor recreation and companionship, enhancing the resident's overall quality of life. The bike is electric assisted, requiring minimal physical effort, allowing you to focus on creating a meaningful shared experience.


Location: Rides will begin at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface and may include trips to nearby parks and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Qualifications:




  • Minimum age of 18 or older, demonstrating maturity.





  • Exemplify patience, flexibility, and compassion.





  • Possess active listening skills, adept at providing empathetic support without imposing advice.





  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with residents, family members, staff, and other volunteers in a clear and compassionate manner.





  • Ability to follow directions and exercise sound judgment.





  • Work well in a team-oriented environment.





  • Satisfactory results in Criminal Record, Adult Abuse Registry, and Child Abuse Registry checks (for individuals aged 18 and above).





  • Provide acceptable references upon request.



Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Safely operate an adapted side-by-side electric bike, ensuring the resident's comfort and well-being throughout the ride.





  • Accompany the resident on short to medium-distance rides (routes may vary based on the day and weather conditions).





  • Engage in friendly conversation and offer companionship during the ride.





  • Assist in securing the resident on the bike and following all safety protocols.





  • Communicate any issues or concerns to staff immediately after the ride.



Requirements:




  • Must be physically capable of operating a side-by-side electric bike (minimal physical effort required due to electric assistance).





  • Ability to follow safety procedures and operate the bike responsibly.





  • Comfortable with light physical activity and outdoor environments.





  • Prior experience with bikes or electric bikes is an asset but not required.





  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward working with individuals with mobility challenges.





  • Must complete an orientation and training on bike operation and safety protocols; provided by staff.
