Description of Duties:

Overview:
HSDE Canada is seeking dedicated volunteer physics teachers to support immigrants, refugees, and newcomers in Winnipeg. Volunteers will provide physics instruction to students at various academic levels, helping them understand key concepts, improve academic performance, and foster an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields. This role plays an essential part in helping students succeed in school and pursue future academic and career opportunities in science and technology.


Key Responsibilities:


Physics Instruction:
- Teach fundamental physics topics such as mechanics, electricity, magnetism, waves, thermodynamics, and optics based on the students' academic levels.
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with students' school curricula and personal learning goals.
- Use hands-on demonstrations and practical examples to explain complex physics concepts in an engaging and accessible way.


Customized Support:
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring to help students grasp difficult concepts and solve physics problems.
- Tailor lessons to meet each student's specific learning needs and pace.
- Assist students with physics homework, assignments, lab reports, and exam preparation.


Mentorship and Academic Encouragement:
- Encourage students to develop a strong foundation in physics and problem-solving skills.
- Motivate students to explore and pursue further studies or careers in STEM fields.
- Provide mentorship by sharing academic tips, study techniques, and time management strategies for excelling in physics.


- Administrative Support:
- Track student progress and provide regular feedback to the Program Coordinator on students' academic development and any challenges.
- Help organize and prepare learning materials and resources for lessons and tutoring sessions.


   
Skills Required:

Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in physics, with a solid understanding of high school-level physics concepts.
- Previous experience teaching or tutoring physics (preferred but not required).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify complex physics concepts for learners with varying levels of understanding.
- Passionate about helping newcomers achieve academic success and build confidence in science.


- Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and tailor instruction accordingly.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
