Description of Duties:

Overview:
HSDE Canada is seeking passionate volunteer biology teachers to assist immigrants, refugees, and newcomers in Winnipeg. Volunteers will provide instruction in various biology topics to help students excel academically and inspire a deeper interest in the life sciences. This role is vital in supporting students' success in school and encouraging them to pursue further education and careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).


Key Responsibilities:
- Biology Instruction:
- Teach a range of biology topics such as cell biology, genetics, human anatomy, ecology, and evolution based on the students' academic levels.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with students' school curricula and individual learning needs.
- Use hands-on demonstrations, models, and visual aids to explain biological concepts and make learning engaging.


- Individualized Support:
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring to help students understand complex biology topics.
- Tailor lessons to meet each student's unique learning pace and academic goals.
- Assist students with biology homework, lab reports, exam preparation, and projects.


- STEM Mentorship:
- Encourage students to develop a strong foundation in biology and scientific inquiry.
- Share study strategies, time management techniques, and tips for succeeding in biology courses.
- Inspire students to consider future studies or careers in biology, healthcare, environmental science, or related fields.


- Administrative Support:
- Track student progress, attendance, and provide feedback to the Program Coordinator.
- Help organize educational materials, resources, and activities for the classroom or tutoring sessions.

   
Skills Required:

Qualifications:
- Proficient in biology, with a strong understanding of high school-level biology concepts.
- Previous experience in teaching or tutoring biology (preferred but not required).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex scientific ideas in a simple, understandable way.
- Passion for helping newcomers achieve academic success and develop a love for biology.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and adapt teaching methods to their needs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
