Organizational Description: Hood & Dagger Productions Inc. is Winnipeg's newest registered not-for-profit community theatre company. We produce live community theatre, specializing in thrillers, mysteries, and tales of adventure.

We work together to create a respectful and positive environment, and cast, crew, Board, and committee members are volunteers. We seek to provide opportunities to get involved, whatever your experience level.

Our vision is to Build Community through Community theatre. We aspire to create more than community theatre, but a community event, supporting local business, promoting community musicians, and also donating to a charity after each show.

Description of Duties:

The Grant, Donor, and Sponsorships Committee ("The Committee" or "GDSC") is established by the Board of Hood and Dagger Productions ("H&D") as a Standing Committee to support H&D in its donor, grant, and sponsorship activities. The GDSC shall develop, monitor, and action a framework for donor, grant, and sponsorship activities, identify viable opportunities, provide strategic direction and advice, and take steps to seek and apply for donor, grant, and sponsorship opportunities. The GDSC shall lead donor conversations, grant writing, and sponsorships by reviewing, developing, adopting, and implementing ideas and proposals for short- and long-term flow of commitments and direct contributions from donors. GDSC Members shall be advocates for H&D sponsorships and grants and assist in the stewardship of its donors.


It is the responsibility of the GDSC, on behalf of the Board to:



  1. Develop and monitor a framework for H&D donor, grant writing, and sponsorship activities, including any ethical considerations, and prioritize in terms of feasibility and impact;

  2. Identify, approach, and court Season Sponsors, Show Sponsors, and Donors (financial or in-kind);

  3. Identify potential grants, create a list (including deadline dates) and submit applications;

  4. Review, refine, and update donor and sponsorship materials;

  5. Assist in "opening doors" to potential donor prospects and in the stewardship of H&D's donor community;

  6. Monitor progress of donor, grant writing, and sponsorship plans;

  7. Organize any 50/50 draws during performances and acquire necessary permits;

  8. Complete and submit applications as needed to ACT Manitoba to use their charity number for grant applications and donor charity receipts;

  9. Ensure open communication with all relevant parties;

  10. Keep activities on schedule;

  11. Actively participate in meetings, providing input, expressing ideas, brainstorming, and sharing innovative ideas;

  12. Regularly report to the Board on the GDSC's activities; and

  13. Other matters or as requested by the Board.

Skills Required:

The Grant, Donor, and Sponsorships Committee (GDSC) members should collectively have a balance of skills, recent and relevant expertise, experience, interest, and knowledge of the following:





    • Grant writing, sponsorship applications, and donor conversations;

    • Strong commitment to H&D and to H&D's approach to building community through community theatre; and

    • Willingness to advocate for and proactively develop possible donor relationships.

The Grant, Donor, and Sponsorships Committee (GDSC) meets four to six times annually or more frequently as the GDSC Chair deems necessary.
