Organizational Description: The Living Prairie Museum is a 12 hectare (30acre) tall grass prairie preserve located inside the City of Winnipeg. Set aside in 1968, this preserve is home to over 160 species of prairie plants and a great array of prairie wildlife and is one of the few remaining fragments of this once vast ecosystem.

The goal of Living Prairie Museum is to provide awareness and conservation of natural areas, specifically tall grass prairie, through environmental education.

We host many special events, workshops, day camps and free family activties throughout the year.

Description of Duties:

The Living Prairie Museum will be hosting our annual Monarch Butterfly Festival on Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21, from 9:30am to 3:30pm. The festival encourages butterfly conservation through education and activities for adults and children. The event reaches over 1000 people, and attendance is free.

We are currently looking for volunteers to assist with the event. Volunteers will be responsible for overseeing children's crafts, face painting, supporting vendors, monitoring capacity, maintain a calm environment in the sensory tent, acting as 'floaters' - moving from station to station as needed, talking to people about the Prairie, and a variety of other event duties.


Volunteers may start at 9:30am or 12:30pm for a 3-hour shift. They often help set up at the start of the day and may help clean up things at the end.
