Description of Duties: | Young Adult Support Group Convenor Description of Duties: The Volunteer Convenor works with the Support Group Facilitator to run support group meetings, ensuring they run as smoothly as possible by handling all logistical aspects of the meeting. This includes organizing and preparing meetings, acting as a liaison between the group and its members and attending the monthly virtual meeting. The convenor emails group members monthly to remind them of the upcoming meeting and provides BTFC staff members with updated membership listings. Strong computer and administrative skills are required for this role. The Convenor is supported by the Support Services Specialist at Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and will be offered training and ongoing check-ins. Volunteers must be 18+ years of age and willing to undergo a vulnerable sector check. Time Commitment:, 5-6 hours per month with some groups breaking over the summer. |
Skills Required: | This role is best suited to individuals who enjoy interacting with others and are comfortable communicating both by phone and email. A Convenor should also be comfortable co-facilitating meetings when necessary. The Convenor may be required to facilitate in the absence of the Facilitator and should commit to attending a minimum of 9 meetings a year. Larger groups may have more than one Convenor. Strong organization and interpersonal skills are also required. The appropriate candidate should be able to maintain and report on attendance lists, use email, interact with others, and work as part of a team. Note - this role is not appropriate for students. |
