Description of Duties:

Equal Housing Initiative inc. (EHI) has partnered with Harvest Manitoba, Costco, Second Harvest and Leftovers to design a Nutrition Program for the residents of the McLaren Hotel - which is a 150 room Single Occupancy Hotel serving Winnipeg's most vulnerable populations. The nutrition program is part of a larger effort by EHI to convert the hotel into a supportive housing facility in partnership with the Federal National Housing Strategy.
To create sustainability within this program, EHI is seeking volunteers willing to dedicate their time on Thursdays to assist in the preparation of the food, break down the items received into individual packages for residents, and assist in distributing packages to residents, as well as pickups from designated locations.
Volunteers would be responsible for:
- Picking up surplus items from Harvest Manitoba, Costco, Second Harvest or Leftovers at specific indicated times.
- Assist in creating individual packages for residents.
- Assist staff in distributing individual packages to the door of residents.

   
Skills Required:

- Vaccination against Covid-19 is required as we are working with a vulnerable population.
- Hold a valid Manitoba Driver's License with access to a reliable vehicle (or a partner willing to drive)
- Ability to respect the confidentiality of the clients and volunteers.
- Ability to record and store data as instructed
- Well-organized, punctual, dependable volunteer
- Good communication skills and problem-solving ability
- Food Handlers certificate an asset but not required.
- Cell phone recommended but not required
- Knowledge of the effects of mental health issues, addiction, poverty, and Winnipeg's marginalized population is an asset.
