Organizational Description: The Needs Centre provides accessible services and support to immigrant and refugee children and youth, and their families. Our goal is to enhance their integration into Canadian society by providing youth with employment, education and social recreation programs supported by psycho-social educators.

Description of Duties:

Volunteer mentors will remotely assist clients in our Remote After-School Mentorship Program for newcomer and refugee children and youth in Grades 1 through 12. Volunteer mentors help provide tutoring support in various subject areas including but not limiting to English, math, science, social studies, health education etc., assist newcomer and refugee children and youth develop and foster positive relationships with adults in a safe environment, provide support to help develop, practice, and improve English Language Skills.

This program runs during the school year (Sept-Jun) Mondays through Thursdays from 4:00-8:00 PM. Volunteer mentors will be paired with clients and assigned to a breakout room on the video conferencing platform to provide one-on-one and/or small group support based on their preferred subjects and areas they feel comfortable supporting clients with.

   
Skills Required:

Responsible, reliable, patient, tolerant, committed to the program, must be a positive role model (no criminal record or current gang activity). Experience working with youth an asset but not necessarily required

Work with youth, gain leadership and communication skills. Learn about issues facing immigrants and refugees
