Meeting Management and Minute Taking (nov 5/25)
October 22, 2024
05:00 PM to 08:00 PM
A well planned board meeting helps ensure effective board minutes are captured. Board meetings and minutes are a tangible record of the meeting for the board of directors and a source of information for those who were not able to attend. If the Board Chair and the Secretary work together to ensure that the agenda and meeting are well thought out, then capturing the minutes becomes a lot easier. This workshop is designed to help board members work as a team to improve the quality of its meetings and ensure what transpired within the meeting is recorded in an appropriate format and level of detail.
Learning Objectives:
- Common meeting guidelines, including rules of order
- The role of the board chair and secretary
- Steps to preparing for a board meeting
- Types of meetings and the best style of minutes for these meetings
- Identifying various styles of decision-making, including the consensus process
- In-camera meetings and how to record these minutes
- How to record action items in the minutes

Jackie Wild is a seasoned communications and marketing professional with over a decade of experience managing successful community-focused initiatives within the public, private and non-profit sectors. Raised in Winnipeg's vibrant inner city, she understands the pressing socioeconomic issues affecting our most historically and intentionally excluded populations. Throughout her professional career, she has witnessed the incredible impact that socially-minded businesses can create through authentic and thoughtful strategic partnerships.
Passionate about doing work that matters, Jackie spent five years at TELUS supporting hundreds of local, grassroots charities creating opportunities for conversation, collaboration and shared learning. Strategically focused on systemic change, she was instrumental in bringing social purpose programs to TELUS Manitoba including the engagement of local leaders in granting decisions. Through this program, more than 200,000 youth and 167 projects have been supported with $2M in funding. Additionally, she enabled the allocation of $2M in national emergency relief funding, which included a sizeable grant for the Health Sciences Centre helping families struggling through COVID-19.
In 2022, Jackie pivoted careers and pursued her entrepreneurial dreams by launching Tito Boy Restaurant, Winnipeg's first south-end Philippine eatery offering traditional and fusion culinary creations. The business, named after her father Agustin "Tito Boy" Doming, represents the intersectionality of different generations and what it means to be a Philippine-Canadian in the modern era.
A champion of community building, Jackie serves as president of the Manitoba Filipino Business Council, leading their vision to serve as the prime community resource hub for Philippine business people and professionals. Jackie also volunteers as board secretary with the Manitoba Museum, small business advisory council co-chair with The Winnipeg Chamber, interview chair with the Loran Scholars Foundation and board member with the Health Sciences Centre Foundation.
In 2020, Jackie was named one of CBC Manitoba's Future 40 recipients and featured in the Filipino Journal's 20 Filipinos to Watch list.
