Embark on a transformative journey with the Advanced Non-Profit Leadership Program, tailored for senior leaders within the non-profit sector. This comprehensive program is designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to effectively lead your organization towards achieving its mission and goals.

Through an engaging curriculum over six weeks, participants will delve into essential aspects of non-profit leadership, while also covering a blend of theoretical foundations and practical applications, ensuring that you are well-prepared to navigate the complexities of non-profit management.

Interactive workshops, case studies, and discussion questions will provide hands-on experience and foster a collaborative learning environment.

When: This fall! Once a week for six weeks.

Dates: October 9, 16, 23,30, November 6, and 13.

Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm

Format: Combination of lesson content delivery, open discussion and peer support!

Schedule:

Each of these sessions will be a blend of discussion, problem solving, and teamwork. Classes may include some limited lecturing, as well as case studies and thought exercises. There will often be pre-reading and some other limited assigned tasks.

Week 1: Course Introduction and Nonprofit Management

Topics:

  • Introduction to the program and each other
  • Overview of nonprofit management principles
  • Understanding the nonprofit sector and its unique challenge

Week 4: Governance and Public Relations

Topics:

  • Roles and responsibilities of board members
  • Navigating board interactions
  • Communication and building relationships with partners and community members

Week 2: Leadership and Human Resources

Topics:

  • Understanding human resources management
  • Building and leading high-performing teams and structures
  • Fostering a positive organizational culture

Week 5: Administration and Program Management

Topics:

  • Effective administrative practices and tools
  • Program design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Risk management and compliance

Week 3: Finance, Stewardship, and Budgeting

Topics:

  • Fundamentals of nonprofit financial management and reporting
  • Budget creation and management
  • Fundraising strategies and donor stewardship

Week 6:Strategy and Execution for Long-Term Success

Topics:

  • Strategic planning and goal setting
  • Monitoring and evaluating organizational performance
  • Change management and adaptive leadership

Facilitator:

Kevin Freedman is a long-time leader in the non-profit sector and has written the book on non-profit governance in Canada. He is the founder and principal consultant at The Governance Guru where he helps boards do their jobs better through training, facilitation, and support. Before starting his business, he spent several years teaching in the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Winnipeg, and specialized in teaching courses on non-profit management, corporate governance, and organization behaviour. A former executive director, he has more than 60 years of cumulative governance experience with public, non-profit, and private organizations locally and nationally, including sitting the boards of the largest credit union in Manitoba and the largest school division in Manitoba.

Kevin is also an award-winning volunteer and educator, having been recognized with a Governor General's Medal for service and the YMCA Peace Medal among others. Kevin holds a master's degree in non-profit management, is an Accredited Canadian Credit Union Director, and is an active member of the Canadian Association of Public Speakers. He has been teaching with Volunteer Manitoba since 2016 and developed most of their governance courses.

To participate, you will need a computer/mobile device with internet connection, speakers and microphone. A webcam is preferred but optional.
