Honouring Your Capacity

January 02, 2024 12:00 AM

As a professional working in the not-for-profit sector, you are likely all too familiar with the amount of volunteer hours required to achieve the goals of the organizations we put our effort, time and hearts into. All too often, lack of funding, limited volunteers and increased demand for our services can lead to burnout, resentment, and generally losing interest and passion for a position that once fulfilled us. Additionally, ongoing stress can impact our relationships, physical health, and general sense of wellbeing.

In this workshop, participants will learn to identify their personal capacity based on subtle cues communicated by our 3-part nervous system. With this new understanding, participants will be better equipped to determine their needs and boundaries, allowing for more constructive communication with coworkers and more effective planning as an organization. Furthermore, participants will touch on the elements of skillful conversation that will set the stage for navigating the challenging - yet essential - conversations that arise from honouring your capacity in a given moment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify your personal capacity based on subtle cues communicated by our 3-part nervous system.

  • Learn the elements of skillful conversation that will set the stage for navigating the challenging - yet essential - conversations that arise from honouring your capacity in a given moment Who should attend?

Facilitator:

Kris Garner is the founder, program developer, and lead instructor of The Emotional Literacy Movement, a grassroots organization that aims to make emotional literacy education more accessible to educational organizations and the community at large. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of education and child care, with 10 of those years spent as a teacher in the public school system. Noticing the high rates of teacher burnout and declining mental health in her students (and herself), Kris left her career and began a 7 year journey of rigorous self study in the fields of trauma informed practices, Polyvagal Theory, holistic psychology, and the arts as traditional healing modalities. Today, she works with various non-profit organizations, schools and child care facilities to increase education and awareness around the inner workings of our nervous system and how understanding the function of our emotions can lead to a happier, healthier, and more productive life. Additionally, she sits as secretary on the board and is the chair of the Education and Programming and Events & Fundraising committees for the not-for-profit organization Seeds of Life Alliance.
