Event Planning 101

This workshop focuses on tips and tools for managing a variety of events from concept to completion. Participants are encouraged to bring an example of a current event or idea to workshop with the group. Employing a creative, interactive approach, you will learn the basics to plan and execute a successful event.
You will learn:
Management functions and how they relate to event management
Considerations for creating an inclusive and low stress event
Processes for planning and tracking progress
How to secure funding, build and monitor a budget
Creating and supervising a team and how to communicate effectively
Dealing with contractors, venues and vendors
Building a marketing plan for your event
Evaluating and sharing success
Facilitator:
Carol Finlay, BA, MCP, ACMCP, is the Executive Director at Artbeat Studio, an arts organization that supports the recovery of individuals living with mental illness. Artbeat Studio hosts many events, including art shows, fundraisers and mental health awareness campaigns.
As Education Director at Creative Manitoba for 12 years, Carol designed innovative programs to build leadership and management excellence in non-profit organizations. She worked in an educational capacity with festival and event producers and led the production of many successful events, from small fundraisers, community events and performances to major learning events such as national conferences. In 2015 she produced a 3-day symposium, Train of Thought Winnipeg, with partners across Canada, multiple venues and locations, engaging over 300 artists and community members. Carol has extensive knowledge and experience in adult education. In her spare time, she enjoys teaching piano and is an avid amateur photographer.
Who should attend:
Those responsible for planning, coordinating and evaluating events ranging from community BBQs, to training to fundraising galas. Participants can include Executive Directors, program managers, board members, committee members, volunteer managers, coordinators and anyone who is interested in learning more about this topic.
