We had a fantastic week in Westman - March 17th to 21st, 2025! It was wonderful to have Sara and Harar from Volunteer Canada join us, and we truly enjoyed connecting with the communities in Brandon, Virden and the surrounding area!

The Lunch Conversation with Volunteer Canada on March 19th was facilitated by our Executive Director, Ashley Seymour, alongside Harar Hall, the Policy and Research Coordinator, and Sara Lyons, the Chief Strategy and Advancement Officer, both representing Volunteer Canada. The event provided a great opportunity to hear about the current landscape of volunteerism from the area's non-profit leaders and volunteers. We also wanted to provide an in-person opportunity for connection, networking, and to have input into the National Volunteer Action Strategy that we're co-creating alongside Volunteer Canada.
"We had an amazing time connecting with community members to learn about the challenges they're facing with volunteerism in their communities. We learned so much, and took away a few real "gems" that we'll be able to weave into the National Action Strategy!"
~ Ashley Seymour, Executive Director
While in Brandon we thought we'd offer an in-person workshop - Roles and Responsibilities of a Non-Profit Board. Wendy Bulloch, Building Up, presented the workshop with our own Kamillah El-Giadaa.
"Wendy Bulloch and I had a fantastic time teaching the Roles and Responsibilities of a Non-Profit Board workshop in Brandon. We were so happy to have representatives from over 20 different non-profits across diverse sectors join us. The engagement was incredible-so many thoughtful questions and good discussions. It was a shared learning experience, and everyone, myself included, left excited to bring new knowledge back to our communities."
~ Kamillah El-Giadaa, Training and Development Manager

Gloria Dovoh, Volunteer Manitoba's Community Relations Coordinator had a busy few days with presentations at École Secondaire Neelin High School and Prairie Hope School in Brandon on top of all the other events! Over the course of four days, Gloria delivered five presentations on the benefits of volunteering, tips on how to get started and "Volunteering: How Giving Back Can Help You Find Purpose in Life". Gloria and Kamillah teamed up to deliver the presentations in Virden for Grade 11/12 students. These sessions provided valuable opportunities for sharing the importance of volunteerism and how young people can get involved in their communities.
"It was an amazing to interact with students and hear their volunteer experiences." ~ Gloria Dovoh
We love travelling to communities all over the province to get their insights and input, attending events, delivering workshops and presentations on volunteerism - be sure to invite us to your community!
