Organizational Description: Non-profit agricultural society established in 1909 dedicated to urban farming and horticultural activities including home crafts, handicrafts, food production and preservation, flower arranging, art, and photography. A volunteer board of directors, a fair committee, and agricultural demonstrators, and educators guide the membership of approx. 150 members of all ages.

Description of Duties:

We are looking for volunteers to assist at the St. Vital Agricultural Fair for a variety of individual tasks such as setting up tables and chairs, assisting in greeting guests, acting as a liaison for the vendors, assisting in packing up tables and chairs and tablecloths at the end of the fair, acting as an information runner during the two day fair and to help with children's craft activities on the second day of the fair.


We are also looking for board members with an interest in agricultural and horticultural activities as a treasurer and members at large. This board meets monthly in the St. Vital area.

   
Skills Required:

The volunteers for the fair should be interested in agricultural and horticultural activities, interested in greeting and meeting members of the community and be able to assist in completing forms for entrants in the fair.


If a volunteer has experience with databases and data entry, that is very valuable to the organization.


The board treasurer should be familiar with banking, maintaining a spreadsheet of entries of income and expenses and reconciling a monthly bank statement.

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

Skills of volunteering with a non-profit agricultural association, working with other volunteers, maintaining a database and data entry, board relations, and experience in the running of an urban agricultural fair would be valuable to a volunteer and to someone looking to expand their career abilities in an organization.
