Description of Duties:

The Canadian Health Libraries Association (CHLA) is looking for volunteers to help make the 2024 conference in Winnipeg a success! The conference runs from June 11 to June 14. No experience in health libraries is necessary, and a training session will be provided before the conference. While we encourage French speakers to apply, conference proceedings will be largely in English. Note: session moderator positions will be assigned to CHLA members.


The following roles are available (additional roles may be added later):



  • Session moderators: Introducing, timing, and thanking speakers.

  • Registration desk: Checking conference attendees in, providing directions, and answering questions about conference programs/events.

  • Runners: On call throughout the day to carry out any tasks as required by the conference planning committee or CHLA/ABSC board of directors. May involve heavy lifting.

L'Association des bibliothèques de la santé du Canada (ABSC) est à la recherche de bénévoles pour contribuer au succès du conférence 2024 à Winnipeg! La conférence se déroulera du 11 au 14 juin. Il n'est pas nécessaire d'avoir de l'expérience dans les bibliothèques de santé, et une session de formation sera planifiée avant la conférence. Bien que nous encouragions les francophones à s'inscrire, les événements et les discours de la conférence se dérouleront principalement en anglais. Note: les postes de modérateurs de session seront attribués à des membres de l'ABSC.



Les rôles suivants sont disponibles (d'autres rôles pourront être ajoutés plus tard):



  • Modérateurs de session: Présenter, chronométrer et remercier les conférenciers.

  • Bureau d'inscription: Enregistrer les participants à la conférence, leur donner des indications et répondre aux questions sur les programmes et les événements de la conférence.

  • Coureurs: Disponibles pendant la journée pour effectuer les tâches demandées par le comité de planification de la conférence ou le conseil d'administration de l'ABSC / CHLA. Il peut s'agir de porter des objets lourds.

Skills Required:

  • Communication Skills: Being able to clearly and politely communicate with a wide range of attendees is essential. This includes active listening, explaining registration procedures, and answering questions about programming and events. Being friendly and helpful to create a positive conference experience for attendees.

  • Organization and Attention to Detail: Registration desks can get busy, so volunteers need to be well-organized and able to handle multiple tasks at once, while also ensuring accuracy in checking registrations and distributing materials.

  • Basic Computer Skills: Some familiarity with computers may be required.

  • Heavy Lifting: Some volunteers may be required to lift heavy objects.
